The Art/History lecture series will be held in the ICA-D later in 2011. The primary goal of the series is to popularize fine art and its up-to-date history within the space of ICA-D. What makes the four presentations unique is that the original pieces of art are carried to Dunaújváros so the guest lecturers talk about them and their era in the presence of the actual works. The four eras, Renaissance, Baroque, Modernism and Postmodernism have been marked out along the traditional style criticism of art as it still offers to the public the most comprehensible and easiest approach. The lectures, however, are not about an era in general but about the works of art themselves and it is through them that the theoretical and practical aspects and components of an era, an artistic milieu unfold. In this spirit, speaking about the Renaissance and the Baroque eras, for example, we focus on royal representation and patronage of the aristocracy, that is, the political and ideological functions of the works. Similarly, in relation to Modernism and Postmodernism we break with the established dichotomy between avant-garde and tradition and in the form of slide show lectures related to the works we flash the visual culture of an era, or rather, a particular historic space-time.
The works of art are borrowed from the institutions for two days and are displayed in the air conditioned space of ICA-D in accordance with the artwork protection regulations.
The exact date of the presentations will be published later.
